Hello friends!
So, wedding announcements. Their purpose is, quite simply, to announce the marriage that just took place. Easy, right?
But who should receive them? Announcements can be sent to anyone whom you want to know about the marriage, who was not invited to the wedding. (Even if they couldn't come, they still know that the wedding took place.)
When should they be sent? While they're usually mailed the day after the event, they can be mailed several months later. I imagine the latter would occur most with couples who hosted the event themselves, as they've lots of other things happening right after the wedding, like celebrating, travelling if lucky, and sending out the rest of the thank you notes.
What if you received an announcement? Remember, don't be offended that you weren't invited to the wedding; the couple might have eloped or chose to keep the wedding incredibly intimate with just their nearest and dearest. Also, don't feel obligated at all to send a gift but I'm sure a congratulatory card or letter would be touching to the newlyweds!
If you're in the market for invitations, any of our wedding invitations designs can be adapted for announcing the marriage, but if you're wanting a photo option, I've found a few good ideas that I'm gathering on Pinterest.
Cheers,
Ashley

Are Save the Dates Necessary?
Hello Friends!
Thanks to Pinterest, especially, it seems that many couples think that Save the Date cards are something that they need to sent out, but they're not always necessary and would just end up being an additional expense in your wedding budget. (If your heart is set on sending them out, please, send them out. I'm a big fan of advance planning and only saying that they're not always a necessity.)
Since invitations are generally mailed out six weeks in advance of the wedding, if attending the wedding requires advance planning or travel arrangements, like destination weddings often require, or if the chosen date falls on a holiday, you need to send out a Save the Date so that your guests can get it on their calendars, and be on the lookout for low airfare. Or order/renew their passports should your wedding occur in a different country!
And remember, you don't need all your information on these. Just that a wedding for these people is going to take place, on this day and in this city. This gives your desired guests what they need to know for any advance planning. That's it. Short, sweet, and to the point.
All of our designs can be adapted to make an elegant Save
the Date. There are also fun ideas out there: photos, magnets, coasters,
etc. But if you've found an invitation design that you want, we can
create a Save the Date to match.
If you've any questions, please ask!
Cheers,
ashley

Wedding Invitations: Response Cards
A necessity these days, the main purpose of these are to give an accurate headcount for the caterers and planners. That's it. The "reply by" date if often provided by a caterer, and is usually about two weeks before the event.
If you're having a plated dinner and want to know the meal preferences of your guests, you could include that on the card. Likewise for allergy information, becoming more and more common these days. (I would leave it as "Dietary restriction:________" and let the guest fill in the blank (vegetarian, vegan, lactose, none, etc.) That doesn't mean you have to cater around one person, but just to be more mindful when planning the menu.
Properly speaking, "number of guests" shouldn't be included, because as we stated in an earlier post, only those whose name is on the envelopes is invited. The M________ is for Ms. Jane Stack or Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith, etc. Everyone attending, who was invited, should be named on the reply card.
If sending a regular card, a self-addressed stamped envelope should be included. If sending out a postcard, don't forget the stamp!
Cheers,
ashley

Wedding Invitations: Date & Time
So you may ask, what's the best way to write out the date and time of the event?
Date
Only the most informal invitations can get away with something like "on the 25th of July" but even then, if there's space to spell it out, "on the twenty-fifth of July.." is always the better option! On more formal invitations, there's absolutely no question- spell the date out.
The year is "two thousand and fifteen." Don't forget the "and."
Time
The time of event(s) should also be written out: at five o'clock or at half after five o'clock, and not half past as so many of us do, by default.
"In the evening" isn't necessary (who's going to get married at five a.m.), but a lot of people like including it. Perhaps it's because we don't use the word "evening" enough. It is a lovely word.
If your event DOES commence in the morning hours, I would include "in the morning" so that people don't miss it
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
ashley
And as a bonus, "Please RSVP" is incorrect, since R.S.V.P. (or R.s.v.p.) stands for répondez s'il vous plaît, French for "please respond."

Wedding Invitations: Venue Address
A common question regarding invitations is whether or not you include the street address for the location of the wedding. The street address can look messy, and take up valuable real estate on an especially wordy invitation, so generally I advise against it.
If the wedding is help in a church, hotel, or other venue that is easily searchable and found, I would omit it. If, however, it's held at a private residence or a new location, let's include it. (But no zip code- you're not sending them a letter!)
Also, if you're including a wedding website card, and creating a website to hold valuable information (maps, hotel information, etc.) like so many couples do these days, you can share the location details there.
Hope that helps!

Don't be afraid of color!
One of our newest wedding invitation designs, the de Winter, changes character with color variations. What starts as a more traditional and calming invitation livens up with the brighter fuchsia and chartreuse!
Never be afraid to play with color! Bright colors and neons used on traditional designs, or more somber colors on modern, nontraditional designs... no rules*, no restrictions, go for it!
Cheers,
ashley

{Work in Progress} Take a Look at the Latest Wedding Work
This week's wedding work is a three-colored design, created specifically for the charming couple.
Today I'm printing the second color, a chocolate brown, but here's how they looked on Monday, with the burnt orange (they're UT graduates) :

The reply card's orange is only the border & hearts, and I'm really liking the way it looks so it might be adapted to a flat stationery set. What do you think?

Ashley

Classy, Draped Invitations
We have a new wedding design, inspired by a photograph of a wedding cake that I stumbled upon.
The invitations are large, 6.75" squares and come with soft cotton, square 7" envelopes (extra postage is required). When invitees receive their invitations, they'll *know* they're being invited to something special!
Not only were reply cards/postcards designed, but also coasters, thank you cards, escort/table cards, and personalized stationery. Of course, you don't need to get married to order personalized coasters or cards!

Pink & Gold Glamour
So... I'm a little behind in printing projects, but only because I've spent the last two weekends printing these awesome wedding invitations! (The only other acceptable excuse would be "because I'm vacationing in Paris/Edinburgh/the beach for a month.")
The bride, Ms Phantastic, provided the design and papers, a bold raspberry card stock and bright white cotton Lettra. I printed the design with the transparent white ink (clear) so the naked impression is just a little more noticeable. The belly band was also edged in gold paint (my new favorite thing!) Once Ms Phantastic got the invitations back, she rubber stamped their names and embossed in gold. AWESOME! Check out these pictures from the instagram feed:
Then this weekend I printed menus, food tent cards, and program covers. The program covers are so pretty, and yup, you guessed it, edged in gold. LOVE.
They turned out so nice, I can't wait to see photos of the finished booklets.
Congrats, Kathy & Chris! Let's talk thank you notes once you're done honeymooning! : )

Gearing up for RENEGADE!

So now we're busting our butts creating new items, rethinking older designs, and having a blast with spring colors! We finally have a baby shower invitation design, an Austin-specific design, and a few other fun things that haven't even been tested yet!
Some new items on Etsy, too. Skull thank you cards, delicate Merci cards, and even more to come next Sunday! Purple and chartreuse ink are on the menu for Saturday.
ALSO
Yesterday was a *very* stressful day in the printshop. BUT we did come out with these custom pieces:
With these two projects complete, our calendar is opening up again, so please don't hesitate to contact us about your special projects.
cheers

Austin Wedding Party
Trent did his first solo-show this weekend. It was with the Austin Wedding Party, the info we shared with those subscribed to our Local Events newsletter, and included many vendors involved in the wedding planning industry.
Judging by the pictures of the event seen so far, it looks like it was a lot of fun!

Chartreuse & Tangerine!
Not traditional colors for a wedding, but super-fun, no?
We had our first print-job from inviting affairs, who designed the card, and it went very well:
I've been promised a sample of the completed set, and will post that once I get it. I'm very excited to see all the pieces.

Save the Date, Medioevalis Style
Helped a client out with the image and printed his design for him and his fiance. Printed these last Sunday:
They provided the design and the paper: deckle-edge European flats ("Medioevalis"); our first time printing on them. The paper resembles watercolor paper, actually- textured and stiff, and took the punch nicely. Looking into setting up an account with a wholesaler and maybe we can carry these in our line.
What do you think? Are there any papers you'd like to see in our regular collection? Currently we use Crane's Lettra and WNP's Luxe, and of course any random pretties I come across to try out. There's a wool paper i'd like, but it's rather $$$. But any suggestions? Let us know : )

Save the Dates
Save the Dates are a great way to get people excited about an upcoming wedding and to alert those of the date, especially if they live out of town or it's a destination wedding. We've done flat cards, received magnets, but this was new:
A bride contacted us wanting a card with just "Please inflate the balloon." across the top, and two small holes punched below that. She was having balloons printed with the wedding information and those will be tied onto the cards. How fun! Our bride selected gold ink, pearl cotton cards, and gold envelopes. The text is handset 10pt type.

Busy Fall...
Hello! It's been forever since I've posted! Bad.
The press was running constantly (or so it felt) last weekend, printing out wedding invitations for 2 couples. Here's a picture of one of them! (The stationery, not the couple.)

Also, re-packaged some Thank You notes. These flats are now available with the envelopes you see here. Click on the picture to be taken to the store.
And what are we up to now? Well holiday things of course! Am finishing up a celebratory design, and pondering another. We'll get those printed in November.
